Memory is not only past

Vier künstlerische Positionen, zu sehen im ADKDW Studio, reflektieren diese Frage: Anna Zett greift auf ihre eigenen Kindheitserfahrungen zurück und untersucht Widerstandsaktionen in der DDR. Salwa Aleryani untersucht, wie sich die auf Landeswährungen abgebildeten Gebäude und Landschaften verändern und dem Leben derer folgen, die sie noch - oder nicht mehr - bewohnen. Barış Doğrusöz übersetzt Überwachungsarchitekturen in abstrakte Formen, die ein Schattenspiel vielgestaltiger geometrischer Vektoren werfen. Und in der Arbeit von Ute Hörner und Mathias Antlfinger hinterlässt das Animalische seine Spuren im menschlichen Lebensraum: Sie überließen zwei Papageien ein Modell der eigenen Wohnung.

The exhibition Memory is not only past explores time, which repeats itself, intensifies and piles up as a course of life before finally reappearing as memory. Time manifests itself not only in human memories, but also in institutional memories, such as archives and objects. Our memories accumulate into biographies of individuals and societies. They also guide our actions in the present. What is at stake?
Four artistic positions, on show in the ADKDW Studio, reflect on this question: Anna Zett recalls her own childhood experiences as she researches acts of resistance in the GDR. Salwa Aleryani explores how buildings and landscapes depicted on national currency change and follow the lives of those who still - or no longer - inhabit them. Barış Doğrusöz translates surveillance architectures into abstract forms whose shadows renders a complex map of geometrical vectors. And in the work of Ute Hörner and Mathias Antlfinger, the animalistic leaves its traces in the human habitat: two parrots were given a model of their own home.

The exhibition Memory is not only past will open on April 4 in the presence of the artists and marks the beginning of the Not Afraid of Art series, which will run for a total of three years. We cordially invite you to celebrate this opening with us!
